DAY 4

Hands Across the Sands celebration
A day for friendly competition.
Date set for 2012: June 14-17.

Robby Naish and 84 other windsurfers from around the world particiated in this weekend's Pistol River Wave Bash. Over 60 of them showed up Sunday for a day of friendly competition and to show their solidarity with Hands Across the Sand. They all joined hands on the Beach at Pistol River, OR at the conclusion of the competition and took this opportunity to demonstrate how important a clean ocean is to all of us. Pistol River was the second of five stops for The American Windsurfing Tour which now heads to San Carlos, Baja July 30th for the third event eligible for this year's competition. Santa Cruz, CA, Pistol River, OR, San Carlos, Baja, Cape Hatteras, NC and the final at Hookipa Beach Park, Maui, HI. Click here for compete information on the Tour. Learn more about Hands Across the Sand here.

DAY 3

The wind and waves were so good that the five regular classes had come to completion on Day 2. In those two days of competition, 3,248 waves were scored and 2,348 jumps for a total of 5,596 scores - two days. That left the Stand-Up (SUP) competition. And the winners were:

DAY 2

Double Elimination

The wind kicked in nicely just as the skippers meeting started at 11 am…it was go time. The action was intense in all divisions with everybody enjoying a second chance to win their way back into title contention.

EXPERT DIVISION: Kai Lenny showed up fresh from his high school graduation to join the double elimination. He battled his way through the bracket winning four heats in the row before being knocked out in the quarter-finals by Graham Ezzy and Josh Stone. Ezzy put on a clinic on Day 2 with his waverides throwing down countless Takas but lost out in the semi-finals to Boujmaa Guilloul and Stone in a heat that saw the wind lull at times. Stone was on fire late in the day advancing past Boujmaa to set up a final against Nathan Mershon. Stone and Mershon impressed all despite the setting sun and lightening winds. They matched Forward and Back Loops and made the most of the waist to shoulder high sets that came through. When the final ended…it didn’t really end. Stone won the heat forcing a re-match as Mershon would have to be beat twice before giving up the title. The re-match was even better than the first! In fact, the competition didn't end until 9pm. How did everyone place?
