STIMULUS PROJECTS - 2010

On February 17, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The law represents a major effort by the federal government to jump start our economy and create and save jobs.

Along with funding to help states maintain critical health and education programs and billions for tax cuts for the middle class, the ARRA will fund thousands of projects nationwide that will improve our critical infrastructure and put Americans back to work. As of April 2010, Curry County has been awarded approximately $16 million in ARRA funding.

Below are some breakdowns in grant awards as they relate to job sectors and examples of just some of the Curry County projects receiving ARRA funds:

$887,188 in Transportation funding to Curry County.

  • $276,909 for Curry County vehicles, maintenance, facility and vehicle equipment.
  • $610,279 for a 2" pavement overlay in the City of Brookings.

$7,056,553 in Health and Human Services funding to Curry County.

  • $1,288,553 in food stamps for low-income households and individuals county-wide.
  • $5,244,495 in Medicaid funding for residents county-wide.
  • $523,285 to Curry County's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, for low- income families with children while they strive to become self-sufficient.

$2,500,061 in Education funding for Curry County.

  • $1,252,718 to Brookings-Harbor School District to implement a Title I grant, to support the education of students with disabilities, and to minimize and avoid reductions in education and other essential public services.
  • $517,637 Central Curry School District to implement a Title I grant, to support the education of students with disabilities, to improve school lunch equipment, to ensure that homeless children have access to public education and public preschool education, and to minimize and avoid reductions in education and other essential public services.
  • $383,439 to Port Orford-Langlois School District to implement a Title I grant, to support the education of students with disabilities, and to minimize and avoid reductions in education and other essential public services.

$4,220,172 to support Employment in Curry County.

  • $181,416 for extending unemployment benefits to residents county-wide.
  • $2,579,111 for emergency unemployment compensation for residents county-wide.
  • $1,338,738 in an extra $25 per week supplement to unemployment benefits.

$150,684 to support the Oregon Youth Employment Initiative in Curry County

  • $91,179 for trail maintenance, hazardous fuels reduction and invasive species removal.
  • $59,504 for facilities maintenance, campground maintenance, fire line digging and removal of invasive species.

$117,562 to support Energy Efficiency in Curry County

  • $65,062 for an energy efficient lighting retrofit in Port Orford-Langlois School District
  • $20,500 to purchase and install a HVAC building system in the Curry County North Annex.
  • $32,000 to purchase and install a HVAC building system in the Curry County South Annex.
