Think "No" means "No"? No.
Do you have a daughter? Well, 173 "Fat Cats" in the House of Representatives have proposed a bill that would narrow the definition of rape and that only "forcible rape" would qualify for health care coverage. This rules out being raped after being drugged or given excessive amounts of alcohol, rapes of women with limited mental capacity, children who are victims of statutory rape and many date rapes.
Furthermore, a bipartisan group in Congress is working to protect the rights of victims abroad who were raped or brutally gang-raped by coworkers. The victims are currently blocked from bringing criminal charges because the rape took place overseas and a fine-print clause in their contract takes away their right to file a lawsuit in the United States. They can also legally be fired for making a report.
But, shockingly, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is fighting it. They sent a letter to Congress saying it would "set a dangerous precedent" to allow these sexual assault victims to bring their cases to court. The worst news is the Chamber has enough clout to tie up the bill for years.
You talk about losing your rights. With corporations now in charge of our political process, look for even more rights to be diminished since corporate profits must be sacrosanct and any restriction on the bottom line must be removed.
As for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, they represent a despicable image of American greed, hate and violence to the outside world and should no longer have the right to use U.S. in their name.
Call Representative DeFazio at 800-944-9603 today and ask him to strongly oppose these actions. For the sake of our daughters and a "civilized" society. That's 800-944-9603.
