First Friday Salon - The Healthcare Movie

Gordon Clay here. Tomorrow at 6pm I will be showing "The Healthcare Movie" which is a documentary that provides the real story of how the health care system in Canada and the United States evolved to be so completely different, given that at one point they were essentially the same. Most people under the age of 50, in both countries, are not aware of the intensity of the political struggle that led to the universal medical care system in Canada. Nor are they aware of the propaganda, still active today, that has been prevalent in the US since the early 1900's to dissuade the public from supporting national health care. It also reveals the continuing struggle in the US between the fear of government intervention and the right to quality health care for all people.

Every day people are dying or going bankrupt due to the ills of the US system. Who are we in the face of this human tragedy? If you agree that people are more important than profits, then you must see this film!

The film starts promptly at 6pm at the Chetco Community Public Library in Brookings followed by a 15 minute Power Point presentation by Annette Klinefelter of Curry Healthy Communities who will gives us an indication of how all of this affects us as Oregonians. An open discussion will follow.

Come early and join our "Photo Petition Campaign." You can help Health Care for All-Oregon collect thousands of photo petitions to put citizens on record in support of Health Care as a Human Right. There should be no barriers to health care for anyone. Other nations enjoy this right. Your photo petition will make an important contribution to the improvement of health care in Oregon. Join us tomorrow to help spread the word.
