Gordon Clay here. The First Friday Salon tomorrow will feature the film Ocean Frontiers: The dawn of a new era in ocean stewardship features on-the-ground reporting from places across the county that are at the forefront of implementing promising new approaches to ocean and coastal management. With Earth's burgeoning populace facing an uncertain future on our beleaguered blue planet, never before have the world's oceans been called upon to serve so many, while suffering so much.
But from the troubled waters now rises a new wave of hope - a blossoming brand of stewardship from those who are doing right by the sea. This documentary takes us on an inspiring voyage to seaports and watersheds across the country to meet unlikely allies, of industrial shippers and whale biologists, pig farmers and wetland ecologists, sport fishers and reef snorkelers and many more, all are embarking on a new course of collaboration, in defense of the seas that sustain us.
Ocean Frontiers takes a balanced, bipartisan approach to both the problems we face in managing our oceans and the solutions at hand. The film showcases people at the forefront of implementing promising new approaches to ocean and coastal management. Rather than leaving viewers with a sense of despair, audiences come away with hope and a clear path forward.
Our neighbors in Port Orford have a significant presence in this film (over 22 minutes) and it makes one think that maybe there is more at stake for the future of the Chetco than everyone yet understands.
Everyone is invited to attend this free evening starting at 6pm, tomorrow, July 6th at the Chetco Library and they are encouraged to stay after the film and join the discussion. See you there.
